The River Thames is an imposing part of my local environment and was the first thing to jump into my mind when I saw that the choice of a scene from your local enironment was included in the module.
Most images of the river seem to be shot in landscape but a portait view seemed ideal to capture the view from the bank.
Despite the bush in the foreground this image seemed to capture the serility of the river on a summer's afternoon.

I snapped this on Canary Wharf on the same day as my Horizontal rectangular image. The sharpness of the building jumped out at me as a great opportunity for a picture.
Unfortunately the time of the day left a shadow behind the other edge but the rusty colours underneath the eves were quite unexpected.
Choosing this shape seemed to really be a no brainer as it was by far the most ideal way of showing teh sheer scale of the building, and it was definitely very effective.

I came across this when I was re-routed through Canary Wharf because of engineering works on the tube. It struck me as a fantastic chance to get photos on this topic, and also showed that carrying your camera everywhere with you really pays off. This particular image is the top of a tube station exit. The many different angles of the reflected building seemed to provide quite a powerful image.

I nearly ran this frog over with a lawnmower before deciding to shoot it with a camera.
After taking a couple of shots I decided to try to place the camera as close as I could to the frog.
I ended up lying on the floor, half a metre away from the camera and squinting at the image through the viewfinder to get it into focus.
I was surprised that the frog didn't budge.and allowed me to get a nice shot to crop down to a square image, despite the flash reflection on its nose!

Horizontal Panoramic / A Night Scene

Night photography is something that I have always struggled with, and so I have been determined to learn something more about it for this module, and so have been experimenting with various shutter speeds and aperture sizes. I have to admit that I am not happy with this effort, but I do like the way that the subtle lighting under the bridge is exposed well, and contrasts with the over exposed neon lighting at the far end. The fact it started bucketing down with rain as I was trying to photograph this scene didn't help. I'd be interested for feedback on this one.
